Customer Reviews

"Great place for a nice lunch and fast service! Nice deck outside. Popular stop for ATV, OHV, motorcycle groups and they can handle it well with bigger groups. The front sign on the building looks tacky and touristy.... place is better that it initially seemed."

- Perfekte W.

"Went on a Sunday and it was super busy. Seating is seat yourself so there was a bit of a wait for our table but it was worth it. The food, cheeseburger and sugar burger delux was really good. The service, top notch. Our waiter checked on us plenty even though it was packed in there. Excellent place to stop!"

- Cassandra N.

"We're most-time RVers on a long-running Dawg Haus hunt for the best cheeseburgers across the U.S. and Canada. We drove out from Spearfish to try Sugar Shack after seeing it featured in Reader's Digest as South Dakota's "Best Burger." It was a busy Saturday with great weather, and while the place was packed, the service was excellent and food came out fast. Mick had the Sugar Burger with onions and mushrooms (skipped the green peppers--because, really, only Eddie Murphy's mom eats those on a burger). Karla had the Classic Cheeseburger Deluxe. Both came on toasted buns but were cooked well-done instead of medium-rare. The patties lacked seasoning, and the Sugar Burger was soggy, making it hard to eat and keep together. Fries were just average. The burgers were OK, but it was a beautiful day for a drive through the Black Hills."

"Came here on suggestion so glad I did. The burger was deliciously juicy and well-seasoned. The toppings for each burger are perfectly thought out. I have had many burgers, and this will rank as one of my favorites. An easy 5 star."

"The food is phenomenal! Hands down the best burger in The Hills. Worth the drive!"

- Kristy A.

"Sugar Shack of the Black Hills is a jewel in this area. The food and service cannot be beat anywhere nearby. Always, always hot and fresh, with a great daily special during the week. We bring our visiting family and friends because SS never disappoints. Even on the cold, dark nights of winter the staff here is always tops. Always friendly and you won't go away hungry."
